I had recently moved from Waterlooville Hampshire, where I was under Queen Alexander Portssmouth hospital and was all set up for a prostrate operation. Considering the distance involved I requested from my doctor here for a referral to a hospital down this way. This done I was given a choice of hospitals, in hindsight thankfully I chose BMI Chaucer. After reviewing my case Mr Thomas gave me a choice, to go down the operation route or take medication and give it six months before making a decision. Did as I was told and the medication worked and still is, will never cure the problem but the longer I can put off surgery the better. As with any surgery there is always that risk, and as good a surgeon and nice bloke he is don't really want anybody playing around up my ****. Wonder why the difference between QA and BMI Chaucer? Just glad it turned out the right way for me.

After an unsuccessful attempt to laser an impacted ureteric stone in February, it was found that the kidney was non-functioning but benign. I saw Mr Thomas on 7th May to discuss my options. A colleague was also there who did not feel a further attempt to remove the stone would be successful or beneficial. I decided I would like to go head to have the kidney and stone removed. Mr Thomas explained in detail what it would involve and pointed out the possible risks and that it was a major operation. However, I had complete faith in his experience and expertise as a surgeon. This was proved as he was able to robotically remove the kidney and stone and I was in no pain afterwards, being discharged after only one night. The operation was done only two weeks after my appointment with him which was amazing. I have just had my post-operative appointment with Mr Thomas whom I find very friendly and reassuring and I am recovering very well. At 81 not bad going!!

A little late for first two appointments but otherwise excellent, thorough and caring with explanation of symptoms, options and prognoses.
